NEWS ON THE STREET
COFFEE NEWS...Word on the street is that Olympia Coffee is underway on a thorough renovation of the former Starbucks. It may take several months before they’re ready to open. Meanwhile, Empire Espresso has opened up their second floor for customers; reports are that it’s pretty comfy up there.
THE BIG HOLE....It’s going around that the developer of the large mixed-use complex under construction at 38th and Alaska (former Post Office site) will be presenting plans for the project at the CCBA’s next quarterly meeting. It's Tues. Sept. 10th, 9:00 AM, PCC Classroom. The meeting is open to all.
WHAT THE DATA SAYS....City business licensing data indicates that there is a surprisingly large number of Columbia City businesses. Reports show a total of 210 licensed businesses in the District. Of that total, about 130 are storefront businesses or are tucked away on upper floors of the District’s commercial buildings; the remaining 80 are “home based”, located in the apartments of Business District residents.

In the 1890's, Columbia City was the last stop on the trolley line from downtown Seattle. Now, it is at the heart of the Light Rail line, 15 minutes from Sea-Tac Airport and 11 minutes to Downtown
